Preparation for Bed Bug Treatment

  1. To remove clothing from home and not take bed bugs with you for the days you will be gone:

Use a NEW/UNUSED garbage bag to put clothing in after you dry them on high heat for 20 minutes. Keep bag and clothes on dryer until you are ready to leave. Do not put anything on the floor. Shake clothes out as you take them out of the dryer and put them in bag. Remember, you are cleaning enough clothes to take with you for the time you are away from home.

If you must use a laundromat; put clothing in a garbage bag to take there, dispose of these bags in an exterior garbage can after you put clothes in washer. After you are done washing and drying the clothes, put them in a NEW/UNUSED garbage bag.

   2.  Remove all bedding: Wash, dry and put in a NEW/UNUSED garbage bag and seal the bag tightly, put on a table.

Discard the used garbage bags in an outside container, do not reuse them.

   3.  Eliminate all clutter: Nothing on the floors that isn’t furniture. Make sure everything is put in its proper place. Nothing on the closet floors or under any bed.

   4.  Vacuum:  All rooms and furniture including beds need to be vacuumed thoroughly. Vacuum all floors and all baseboards. Use a crevice tool around moldings of the rooms. Mop all floors if not carpeted after vacuuming. Place vacuum bag in a plastic bag, seal and throw away in an outside container. If you have a canister vacuum, then empty into a bag and put in an outside container.

If you want to wash your carpets; then do so BEFORE your home gets treated. If you do it after, you will wash away all residual that will remain on your carpets and help kill bed bugs for 3 months.

After the treatment, you need to vacuum everywhere when you return home, this is to remove all dead and dying bed bugs and eggs. Do this every few days for about a week after. Seal contents of canister or bag in a plastic bag and put in an outside container.
